Willow

Update March 30, 2011.  Willow was spayed today.  She would love to run and have fun in her forever home!

We ran Willow in a 6 dog team today.  She came in with General and is a friendly girl with a wonderful personality.  She runs great.  She has a very smooth lope and a nice trot.  Her problem right now is that she is very growley with other dogs.  We think she came into the shelter pregnant and that is probably what is making her grumpy.  She was fine with her brother, General, so she got to run alongside him, but the other dogs she didn’t want much to do with.  If she was spayed I bet she would feel better and not be so growley.  She is a good working dog.  She is 5 years old and on house D.

General

We ran General in a 6 dog team today.  He is 5 years old and comes from mushing lines.  People had him and tried to make him into a pet before coming to the shelter.  He is a friendly boy with a nice demeanor.  He likes to work but is probably a slower dog that would do good on a team that is doing slower speeds on the trails.  He is fairly short with short legs so can’t go as fast as some of the other dogs.  General is on house P.

Sun dogs

Pixel and Jewel are our Sun Dogs.  They will search out the sunniest spot on the floor, the loveseat or a dog bed.  The 2 of them LOVE to be hot.  So, they are often seen together in the sun, curled up close together soaking up the rays.  We are still waiting on word as to when the opthamologist will be up from Anchorage to check out Pixel’s eyes and try to get a definitive diagnosis for her sight problems.  Sounds like it won’t be until May!

yo-yo

Had a scare with Onyx.  A virus has been going through our dog yard.  One dog at a time.  Well, Onyx must have caught it.  After a week of nearly perfect stools she started blowing out BAD.  4 times in the house (luckily on the concrete floor downstairs) and many times outside.  Anything she ate came out as liquid.  She dropped 3 pounds and weighed 44 pounds.  So…back to the “old” days….took her off her food for 24 hours.  Filled her full with IV fluids for a day then gradually started feeding her again starting with very small portions twice a day plus metronidazole to help her gut.

After several days her stools are back to cow patties and her weight is back up to 46.6 today.  whew.
