Brownie
Brownie is one of 4 that came into the shelter together. She is a super nice dog. Very friendly and gregarious. Brownie ran lead without a hitch and LOVES to go. She can be a line chewer because she really wants to go. She has good speed. Her back legs are kind of “hocked” but that doesn’t limit her running or her speed.
Brownie is inside at the shelter (as all 4 dogs are) and they are all housebroken.
She has her dew claws.
Update Feb. 28 Brownie had been spayed. She is a happy girl that everyone at the vet office loved. If you want a speedy girl that will run lead and could live in the house, please consider Brownie.
Update March 9. Brownie was adopted!
Jonni
Jonni is probably the sibling to JJ. She is an outstanding dog that loves to go. She has a smooth gait and runs lead like a champ. She is super friendly and outgoing. Loves people and gets along with other dogs. All in all, a dog you could run sprint or skijor with. She has her dew claws.
Jonni is inside at the shelter.
The other dog in the picture is Miles.
Update Feb. 25th. Jonni has been adopted!
JJ
UPDATE March 28th. JJ has been adopted. I had exhausted all of my possibilities and thought that he would be euthed. I am hoping that it is a very happy home for him. He is a cool dog.
JJ is a solid boy, one of the 4 that came in together. His sibling is probably Jonni. He ran great. Very enthusiastic and loved to go. For some reason though, once we turned around, he seemed to cramp up and we had to carry him on the 4 wheeler. We checked him all over back at the truck and couldn’t find anything wrong with him. The shelter will have a vet look at him to see if they can find anything.
JJ is a super nice boy. Friendly and calm. With his drive and hoping that nothing major is wrong with him, he could make a good skijor or team dog that would love to lay at your feet at night. He has his dew claws and a very short coat.
JJ is inside at the shelter.
UPDATE March 1
JJ was a star at the Shelter Fund fund raiser at Warwick Glass Studio on Saturday. He loved everybody. Was very calm and quiet. Lots of pets from kids and he got along the best of all the dogs we had there. Just an easy going fellow that would love an active home.
Here is a picture of him looking very happy at the fund raiser.
update! March 14th. I ran JJ in a 2 dog skijor team with a solid command leader today. He has good speed and after a tentative start really loved to go. He is a hard worker and pulled hard. We got into a little tangle and he dropped back with some fear, but after getting straightened out he was right out front pulling hard. He will need a gentle hand and a few 1 or 2 mile skijors to start off with, but he has great potential for skijoring. He is very strong.
Miles
Miles is one of 4 from the same kennel that came into the shelter. All 4 are healthy and friendly. Miles is probably the most timid. He has the best coat of all these houndy mixes. All 4 ran great (but more on JJ in his post) and would do well in any sort of home. They are all housebroken and used to being around people.
Miles did a super job of keeping up with this fast sprinty team. We were probably going a bit too fast for him but his tug was never slack. We ran him in lead and he was tentative but kept his line tight and stayed out front.
Miles will need a gentle person and will blossom with patience and confidence.
Miles is inside at the shelter. He has his dew claws.
Update March 14th. I ran Miles in a 2 dog skijor team today. He was with a strong leader but he loved to go. Tentative at first because he was confused being in a “team” with only 2 dogs total….but he kicked right off and away we went. We got into a tangle when he went behind Chance and then stepped over the neckline, but he was fine with me untangling and heading on down the trail. He is a super sweet, but shy boy that will need a gentle hand and some confidence. He is also a super good cab dog! Loved to ride in front.
Update March 15th. Miles got adopted!

This poor girl has been through so much with such a great attitude. We can all learn a lot from her.
She has a vet appt. this week. After exhausting just about every drug for her condition we are back to prednisone. She isn’t doing well on it. She is so very thin and still having blowouts.
We will do a full blood panel and gastric tests to see if anything has changed and figure out a course of action. Seems like we have tried everything for her, from holistic to western drugs. She hangs on to life and runs around crazily and usually has a bone in her mouth outside…amazing dog.

Our poor girl. Geesh…to have lived most of her life with this bowel disease. And we just can’t get her stable. She still doesn’t know she is pretty sick. Lots of energy and enthusiasm. For the past 46 days we had her on Atopica (cyclosporine) but she was getting worse and worse. Her diarrhea was increasing although her weight has been stable at 38 pounds.
So we decided to try prednisone again. This is her first day and so far she is doing exactly what she did before on it….she drinks so much water and has so many blowouts that I worry about severe dehydration. We will give her IV fluids if she continues much longer. The vet said to at least try it for a week. It IS the drug for this disease. But if this continues she will be dead in a week.
We will see how she does tomorrow and go from there.
sigh. She is the most gentle, loving dog. She didn’t deserve this in her life.
