Loki
Friday, May 30, 2008
A larger male dog that would do best not being chained up. He recently had blood drawn and the shelter is waiting on results of his thyroid tests. He has a rough coat and much of the fur worn off around his neck. He is very high energy. Loki is a good sled dog that with some TLC will be a gorgeous and strong working dog that would also make a great pet as he is very friendly.

Big Boy
Friday, May 30, 2008
He is an english pointer/husky mix. Quite shy but approachable. He is very hand shy and thinks the worst is going to happen to him. He is a nice running dog. Good drive with a nice gait. Not a sprint dog. With some gentle care this dog will blossom. He is 3 years old.

Ginger

Foxy is adopted!
Wednesday, 29 August 2007
Foxy has been at the shelter for over 2 months. This is pretty rare for a shelter dog but people have liked her and she continues to stay.
She LOVES to pull. This is a working dog that is sweet and friendly and could make a great pet. She can be a bit timid but will warm up with gentle care. She has a nice coat and is medium sized. She seems to get along with other dogs.
This girl is a diamond in the rough. Everyone thought she wasn't a sled dog, including me!! But she is very driven and focused when working. Her gait is beautiful with a very efficient lope and trot.

Hoola is adopted!
Thursday, 14 June 2007
Hoola is a super sweet girl who loves to run. She is spayed and has had extensive bloodwork and x rays done and is a
very healthy dog that just needs some gentle attention. She has been at the shelter for quite awhile and is looking for
that forever home that would love to have her run in a team although I think she would love to be a pet also. Hoola
is on the shy side but warms up quickly. She isn't a speedy dog but will keep a steady pace for you through your run.
Please think about adding Hoola to your home!

Snickers (Emma)
Monday, 2 July 2007 UPDATE!
Emma has found a new home!
Sunday, 3 June 2007
Snickers (now known as Emma) is looking for a new forever home. We raised her from a 10 day old pup. She was confiscated along with her emaciated mother and her sister from a terrible abuse/neglect situation where they were living among dead starved dogs on chains and dogs that were near death. Chiclet and her puppies managed to survive and were taken by the shelter. We fostered them and found homes for the 2 puppies and ended up adopting the mother who is an incredibly sweet gentle soul.
Snickers (Emma) went to a new home at 5 months of age (she is now 1.5 years old) but her new home divorced and the woman is now being deployed to Korea! So Snickers is now looking for a new home.
She is a very sweet girl with a lot of energy. She has never been on a chain and has been a house dog. She is kennel trained and gets along well with other dogs. She doesn't run off but does go running with her owner every day so she likes a lot of exercise. She will probably make a good skijoring dog.
If you can give this young girl a good home, please let us know.

New Shelter Dogs!
Thursday, 17 May 2007
Several new dogs are in the yard at the shelter. We don't have pictures yet for Taz and Hoola, but we'll get them soon.
You can get information about these dogs by clicking on the pictures below, or get information about how to adopt them at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter Web site, along with information on other available animals.
Rose is a 54 pound female on the thin side that is mellow and gets along great with other dogs. She is a hard worker and would do great in a rec team.
|
Bubba is a happy young fellow with a very thick coat. He loves to pull, gets along with other dogs and would do great in a rec team that doesn't go too fast. He is a goofy boy who is friendly and loving.
|
|
Hoola is a very sweet and mellow female that works hard but seemed stiff in the back end. She varied between trotting and pacing. Hoola and Rose got along great being side by side and several tangles. This dog is an overall nice dog.
|
|
Taz is a sprinty dog that ran the Jr. North American. She is friendly and pulls hard. She loves people and would do well in a small team with other hard working faster dogs.

Yukon is adopted!
Saturday, 12 May 2007
Yukon is a 55 pound Iditarod dog that is friendly and social. He ran on our shelter team several weeks ago and did great. He has an iditarod microchip but his owner was not located. He was a stray left in the after hours cages so we have no information on him. But for this dog to have the number of training miles on him to at least begin the Iditarod shows me that he is a dog worth having!

New Shelter Dogs
Thursday, 3 May 2007
Arepaki is a sprinty/mid distance dog. She is friendly and seems mellow at the shelter but her ex owner said that she is wild at hook up and starts lashing out in over exuberance to anyone who is near her. She has accidentally bit two people but not in meaness...just in over excitement. This dog is a driven sled dog who needs an experienced yet gentle owner.
Ollie is a young male that is a good sized mid distance dog. He has run this winter and does well in a team. He is a handsome dog with blue eyes and a nice build. He is on the shy side so will need a patient owner.

More Shelter Dogs
Monday, 16 April 2007
The "April dump" of sleddogs is in full swing, and the back lot of the Fairbanks shelter is again full. Here are a few of the dogs there now. We'll post more details when we run them in the next day or two.
You can get information about how to adopt these dogs at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter Web site, along with information on other available animals.
Updated 9 May 2007:
Rusty is still at the shelter, and we don't understand why! He is a driven neutered male sled dog with a lot of personality. He can be a bit shy at times but he is pretty animated and a bit crazy at hook up. He LOVES to run. He is a very driven swing dog and would do well in a faster mid distance to distance team.
Grish and Tuffy are still there too!

Violet |
This girl was left in the drop-off cages at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter with no information, and is now available for adoption. On the small side. She is a quiet girl and is well-behaved in her kennel, but prefers to be outside. Violet is a friendly, gentle girl who is interested in meeting people.
On 3/15/2007 we ran Violet in a 3 dog skijor team. She is very easy to handle, likes other dogs and is calm around people. She didn't take to skijoring immediately but with more confidence and a little more maturity she would probably be a nice skijor dog. Violet is very quiet on the road and in a dog box. She would make an active person a great pet as she is very sweet and gentle. She would need daily exercise but would probably settle into a household with no problem.
She loves to play with other dogs and can play for hours.
You can adopt her from the Fairbanks Animal Shelter.
