Update January 10: Luna has been adopted.
Luna is a beautiful husky that was brought to the shelter after she had been hit by a car. The shelter rallied around her and sent her to a vet where her leg had to be amputated. This hasn’t stopped this gorgeous girl one bit. She has the husky instinct to run run run and even though she is missing a back leg I bet she would be fast and fun. She is already housebroken, walks well on a leash, loves to play with other dogs and loves living inside. If you think you can give this young girl a forever home please contact the borough shelter on Peger Road. Or call their number at 459-1451.
Hello Carol, Your site is great. I recently lost the last of a pack of 4 huskies and husky mix dogs (all to old age!) and am starting to look for new dogs. My partner and I want a couple of dogs for hiking and skijoring. We have a reasonably sized fenced yard in Anchorage, on the trail system, and 4 empty dog houses full of straw. We are wanting all weather, sturdy, younger dogs that will be happy outdoors during the day in the winter when we are at work. Also that will be social with other dogs they meet on the trail. That wouldn’t mind coming in at night to be a part of the pack. Our lives are organized around dogs and not having any is very odd.
I will be coming up to Fairbanks for work this week and am planning to stop by the shelter. Azimuth looks like a beauty, but we’d like to avoid the dominant female thing as we both have had alpha females. (They learned to get along with eachother but they were challenging in public) Would like to know about Lancelot and Charming. About how much do they weigh? Do you think one or the other or both would readily adapt to being a pet with time and lots of attention? Are there any particular challenges that you see with either of them? Are there any others you would reccomend to look at? Would it be possible to talk with you, ie. do you have a phone number I could call you at?
Thank-you, Leslie Tose
