Bjork

Bjork is a sibling to Tilda.  She comes from sprint lines.  She is one year old and unknown if she has ever been in harness.  This girl will come around quickly with patience and love.  She isn’t as fearful as Tilda and is very approachable.  She would love a pet home where she could go skijoring and running and become your best friend.  Tilda is very comfortable around Bjork.  Wouldn’t you like a fast 2 dog skijor team?

Loki (courtesy post)

Update June 1:  Loki has been adodpted.

WOW!  Want an all around great dog that also gets along with cats???  Here is what his current foster says about him:  (If interested please contact Andrew at:  [email protected])

Loki is a 3 year old husky that we’ve been fostering since February 2020. The person who was supposed to take him no longer can, so we need to find him a good home where he can be a pet. He shouldn’t go into a dog yard, he’s lived the life of in-home luxury since he came to us and has fully integrated into life with 3 other dogs and 2 cats. We went skijoring while there was snow on the ground and he was the perfect skijoring partner for me as a beginner, but he didn’t pull me along unless I was also putting in effort. He’s a bit of a couch potato, but loves to go out for walks and play with our big 80 pound dog, Atlas. He’s not a typical high energy husky, but insists to be within 3 feet of his person most of the time. He does very well in his crate and often lies in it with the door open when we’re just hanging out. Due to my impending move to Juneau, we can’t keep Loki in perpetuity and need to find him a home where he can be a couch potato, receive pets, and cuddle in bed. His favorite activities starting with most favorite are being loved on, cuddling, napping, playing, and taking walkies.

UPDATE:  June 1: Diego and Hercules got adopted.  Loco is in a foster home.  Still looking for homes for Ruby and Monkey.

These dogs are well socialized and love people!  They are looking for great homes.  Although they are a bit older, they are very healthy.  All are spayed or neutered.

Here is what the owner says about them.  (Loco is white dog in 2 of the pictures.).  Diego is in the picture on the dog bed with Loco.  Ruby is laying outside in the sun.  Monkey is the brown dog, inside picture.

Please contact [email protected]  if you are interested.

Diego

Male | Neutered | 11 years old

Diego is a stoic and mellow old boy who loves hanging on the couch and is also good in a pen or on a swivel. He likes walks and hikes. He is usually good of leash, but has upon occasion wandered off. He gets along well with other dogs. Though not sure about cats. He likes affection but is not necessarily a cuddler.

He has no interest in being a sled dog any more. So if you are looking for a dog to skijor or bikejor with, he wouldn’t be a good fit. But he likes hiking, car rides and couch time. He is a great companion dog.

Loco

Female | Spayed | 11 years old

Loco has a funny personality and likes to be pampered. She is great indoors and outdoors. She likes hiking but needs to be on a leash. She can wander off and has very poor sense of direction. She is great with kids and other dogs. We use to take her to all our school presentations. She really knows how to work a crowd. She likes affection but isn’t much of a cuddler.

She would make a good running and hiking buddy. She definitely needs her outdoor time so a pen for her during the day and a couch at night is her perfect life.

Monkey & Ruby

Male, Female | Neutered, Spayed | 10 years old | Siblings

These two dogs are brother and sister and have been together their whole lives. So we plan to adopt them out together. Both are good lead dogs and are still up for being sled dogs. Monkey is good for 10-12 mile runs. Ruby is slowing down and prefers 5-6 mile runs.

They are good off leash and make great hiking buddies. They love car rides too.

They are great indoors and outdoors. Very friendly and good with kids. No cats or small dogs (Monkey will chase them).

Beckett (courtesy post)

The info: Beckett is a 4 year old intact male, born 10/2/2015. He weighs about 43 lbs. He has a short coat and a cute pink nose. He does best in a team position. He had a full blood workup done about a year ago; everything checked out normal. Beckett is up to date on all his vaccines.
The good: Beckett is a very sweet boy who LOVES people. Loves, loves, loves. He also skijors well. I’ve run him next to another dog and solo, and he does well at both. I really appreciate that Beckett will wait patiently for me to attach my skis when we are harnessed up as opposed to some dogs who are constantly yanking on the line and make it impossible for us to even get started. He is an enthusiastic puller, has lots of energy, a good appetite, and is eager to run. Beckett would do amazingly well as a hiking/skijor/low mileage mushing buddy for an active person.
The less good: On occasion, Beckett has gone after the dog next to him on the line if it is a male. He is intact currently, and I can have him neutered if desired. But this isn’t the reason we are looking to rehome him. Beckett doesn’t have the stamina or speed to keep up with the rest of our sled dogs. He would do best in a home that either lets him be a skijor/hiking dog or, if it is a mushing home, one that doesn’t go more than about 15 miles and no faster than about 7 mph. This has made it very difficult for us to take him on dog runs as we are generally going farther and faster than he can do.
Beckett is not house trained, but I think with patience and an experienced trainer, he could figure it out fast. He rides in the car well.
So if anyone is looking to try out a new dog with some of their newfound free time, I’d be happy to meet them (in a proper socially distant manner) and let them take Beckett for a home trial or even just a trial run at ADMA or wherever else they might want to meet. I am happy to answer any other questions via Facebook messenger, text, or email. Please share with anyone who might be looking for a sweet dog to add to their life, thank you!

Village dogs! Super friendly

UPDATE: April 28th:  WOW!!!  Smokey, Bloodline and Friskie all have a new home.  Bella will have a great home IF she doesn’t chase cats. The foster is looking for someone with a cat to see Bella’s reaction.

GEEGA : Is still looking for a home.  I love this boy.  He is reserved but you can tell he just wants a lot of love.  He has been bikejoring twice now and is a powerhouse.  He would make a great skijor dog and love to live inside when not having outdoor fun.

GRACIE:  Is still looking for a home.  WOW!!!  If you want a DRIVEN dog that has a ton of energy this is the girl for you.  She is super friendly.  Loves people.  Loves to bikejor by herself or with another dog.  She is tiny and petite but has a lot of power in that little body.  She would be great with a runner/skier who can get her out on a daily basis to keep her happy.

Update April 23: I met with all these dogs today.  WOW.  They are great.  A couple are on the shy side.  Bella is probably the most shy.  But she is very young and will need a patient hand, she should come around with kindness.  K. said that some friends came over last night and took all the dogs out bikejoring and they all did great!!  These dogs have probably never even seen a bike.  All are hard pullers and love to go.

STUDENT POSTERS for homing village dogs with contact info

These dogs came from a musher in the villages who had to leave town due to the coronavirus (family back east I guess) and didn’t really want her dogs to remain in the village.  All the school kids who had been working with these dogs did this poster and wrote up the descriptions.  These dogs are now in FAIRBANKS…..if anyone is interested please contact the person on the poster.  Thanks!

Sugar

I don’t have a good picture of Sugar, but I’ll post when I do.  She is a long legged sprint husky (very blond) that had been on winning sprint teams.  Why she ended up at the shelter we will never know!

She is in foster care through The Second Chance League right now.  She got her first run in yesterday as a wheel dog and did very well.  She just got spayed 11 days ago so will have easier runs at first.

Here she is!!  Beautiful dog.  Thanks KW for the picture.

Amelia (now being called Gilly)

Update: April 22 Well, after looking over paperwork, Elsa and Gilly are NOT sisters!!!  They came from the same kennel. Not sure of kinship.  Gilly is only 10 months old.  Still very much a puppy.  She has tons of energy and the foster said that even after walking her for 2 hours she STILL wants to run and play.  She can be shy around other people, but has bonded strongly with her foster person.  Whoever takes this pup will need a little patience to gain her trust.  A very sweet girl.

Amelia is still a baby!  Just a year and a half old, she came from out of town with not a lot of information.  She is in foster care right now through SCL.  She is just adjusting to the indoor life and looks like she is very happy!!  In the near future she might try some skijoring.  If you are interested in Amelia please contact [email protected]

She is a bit timid but not overly so.  She will need a patient person but she has so much potential!

Suki

Update Dec. 21, 2019: Haven’t done an update in awhile for Suki.  She is a dear.  Likes people and children.  Runs lead!  She has been doing great in her foster home.  She does have another female dog that she seems not to like, but the foster never puts them together.  Suki seems most comfortable in lead.

Update January 2019:  I heard Suki is running lead.  She continues to thrive and loves to run.

Update Sept. 28: Suki’s foster person says this about her: “Suki is more subdued, but is a hard worker – she is doing well too, although sometimes a bit snippy with some of the other dogs”.  Suki is  very hard working girl.  She probably needs run a lot to keep her happy and content.  She would make a great addition to a team for her work ethic.

UPDATE: Suki is in foster care through The Second Chance League.  Contact them at: [email protected]

Suki was the lone female that came in with her kennel mates Mouse, Mocha and Diamond.  (Diamond has already been adopted).  I love this girl.  She is SO friendly and loves everyone.  She ran in a children’s team all winter and is in good shape other than being terribly thin.  She was spayed recently so ready to go to her new home.  She will probably go after a rabbit, or maybe a cat, but she loves other dogs and I bet with training and getting bonded with a new owner, she will make a trusted companion.
